Many times, I went to travel and took a lot of extra stuff with me that was a big issue. Last time, I realized that I should bring a smaller number of things with proper packing. Do you know it? I enjoyed traveling a lot after realizing this point. So, I decided to share the experience with you to keep you safe from any problems or issue during traveling. Stay here!
Ways to Attach Sleeping Bag to Backpack
Many ways to attach a sleeping bag to backpack. Some of those methods are mentioned below for your ease in steps one by one:
⦁ Tie with the Backpack Loops
⦁ Use of Compression Buckles
⦁ Build Own System for Tying
⦁ Use of Lids
⦁ Tie Points at the Front Bottom Side
⦁ Pack it Inside
You can tie it with your backpack, but I always put it inside the bag. So, I feel more comfortable with this method. I also recommend you to put it inside the backpack instead of tying it with the backpack.
Tie with the Backpack Loops
The first method is the use of loops of backpack, and there should be straps on your sleeping bag carrying sacks. If these two features are not available with your backpack and sleeping bag, then this method is not for you, but you should try the other way. Let me discuss step by step guide!
As I told, there should be a loop on the bottom side of your backpack. So, you should try to buy the backpack with these loops. You can quickly enter the straps of carrying sacks in the circles of backpack to tie them.
If there are no straps on your carrying sacks of the sleeping bag, then you can buy them separately from the market. I recommend buying belts because it is a more useful method you should try for more ease and comfort during the traveling time.
Moreover, your sleeping bag should be waterproof. Otherwise, you can face problems in the rain. The durability of the bag also matters, so, try to purchase the trusted brand bag.
Use of Compression Buckles
If there are no straps on your sleeping bag, then you can try this method. It is the best alternative to previous practice. But I recommend the previous one if you have straps on carrying sacks of sleeping bag.
The purpose of compression buckles is entirely different, but you can use them as loops. I learned this method during my traveling when one of the circles were damaged due to high weight and lack of durability material.
Usually, old bags don’t have loops. So, if you have a durable bag without loops, then there is no need to change the bag because of the compression buckles.
As it is clear from the name of these buckles, they are used for the compression, but we can take multiple advantages from these buckles in difficult situations. One of the best benefits is the use them as loops for high weigh or load.
I like this method because of the distance of both buckles. The distance between the loops is smaller as compare to the buckles. So, it helps maintain the weight on both sides. Moreover, you will not feel extra pressure on your one shoulder. But there will be a proper distribution of pressure on both sides.
Build Own System for Tying
Are there loops on your backpack? That’s good! Are there straps on your sleeping bag? No? It’s unfortunate. But you don’t need to worry because I am going to share a method with you to create your system of tying if there are no straps on your sleeping bag.
To prepare your system to tie your sleeping bag with the backpack, you should make the four pieces of twine. You can buy these pieces of twine from the Amazon at cheap rates. After buying them, you have to make four pieces. One pair is required to tie the sleeping bag, and the other is the tie the two pieces with the loops of your backpack.
Remember that it is necessary to tie everything tightly otherwise your sleeping bag will swing. The swinging of the bag is a big problem at the time of hiking.
You can also use buckles in front of the two pieces of twines which you used to tie your sleeping bag. But you should know that it is a more complicated method, so, I recommend to keep things simple and easy.
Use of Lids
There are lids on some backpacks to which are used to pick up the bottom side with the upper hand to decrease the pressure on the bottom side of bag.
There can be many other uses of these lids. For example, you can use them to tie your sleeping bag with the backpack if your backpack does not have loops on the bottom sides.
Again, I found this method during my travel to Africa. I learned to survive in all situations. So, if you don’t have the loops on your backpack or you have lost loops, then you should use this method to continue your journey.
Some people don’t like lids to tie the sleeping bag. I also don’t like because it is not comfortable as loops, but you should try this method if there is no other option available.
To do this, you have to put your sleeping bag on the top of everything and use the straps to bound it with the backpack. Straps are attached with the backpack, and they will tighten the sleeping bag with the backpack.
It will keep your sleeping bag stable, but you will not feel comfortable because you will feel the more weight on your downside of the back that will be very annoying. So, you should avoid this method if there are other methods available.
Tie Points at the Front Bottom Side
A backpack with the external frame is my favorite backpack. It is not possible to define the feelings in words, but I can say that you will feel less weight and more comfort with the external frame backpack.
It is a suitable method with this type of backpacks which have external frames however there are internal frame bags also come with these straps.
The point is that you can use these straps as loops to tie your sleeping bag. I used this method and felt it very comfortable during the use of the sleeping bag after tying it with the external frame backpack straps.
The weight of the bag will be distributed on both sides equally, so, you will not feel any discomfort or swinging of sleeping bag. Let me know if you have any questions related to this method because I am here to discuss the issues with you.
Pack it Inside
As I told earlier, I always prefer to pack it inside the backpack. I know that the purpose of this article to attach a sleeping bag to backpack. But I am also discussing the reasons why should you put it inside the pack. Maybe, you don’t know about this idea, so, I decided to discuss it here with you.
Honestly, I think that attach the sleeping bag to backpack is not a good idea, but it is a wrong way to go outside the home with your necessary things. I was also addicted to attaching sleeping bag to backpack, but I realized later that I should put it inside the backpack. I tried this method and felt very comfortable. Moreover, I cannot describe the feelings in words, but it was a great experience.
There are many reasons to put your sleeping bag inside the backpack. But you have to know that the most important benefit is to save your sleeping bag from the water.

For this purpose, there should be loops on the bottom of your bag. If there are no loops on the bottom of your backpack, then you can use compression buckles for this purpose.
